Houghton Falls State Natural Area (Washburn, WI)

When I travel to my favorite used bookstore in Washburn, WI. (Chequamegon Books: (http://www.chequamegonbooks.com/), the Houghton Falls State Natural Area has become a side trip, either before or after the bookstore. Echo Dells, below the first falls, contains a large stand of mature Hemlock, Yellow Birch and White Cedar. The stream bank is carved into a shelf-like Pre-Cambrian sandstone gorge, which offers photographers many low or diffused light opportunities. You can hike to the end of the walking path at Lake Superior and be greeted by additional splendid photographic opportunities.
