Lake Superior Shoreline, Porcupine Mountains Wilderness

Just a trace of color in red maples thus far. The poplars have yet to even approach their vibrant yellows. Typically, in my experience, the first week in October is close to prime for the leaf peepers. I will endure them and make my annual trek to the birthplace of my grandparents in the Keweenaw Peninsula, making the circle drive from Houghton/Hancock, up to Copper Harbor, and back, with the Canon, a lunch, and a greatful Schnauzer travel companion. Will have to work it in between Ruffed Grouse hunting, the opening of bow season for Whitetailed Deer, and the ongoing chores requisite for keeping this old farm in eye-catching shape.
