Large-Flowered Trillium (Trillium grandiflorum)

Unlike downstate where this species is abundant, I have found few Trillium here in the U.P. Everything is beginning to pop up, including Dutchman's Breeches, Forget-Me-Nots, Marsh Marigold, Grape Hyacinth, and other early bloomers. The bird migration is still in earnest, 50 lbs of mixed seed lasting less than a week. White crowned and white throated sparrows have remained. Today, the first Ruby Throated Hummingbird and first Indigo Bunting. The male Rose Breasted Grosbeak of last season who seemed to have a penchant for the Jazz Guitar of Pat Metheny on the stereo has returned, and true to form, will cock his head for Pat's riffs. Rauhallinen Farm is very alive.
