The snow was deep enough for Benny and I to get down the near vertical drop to Lake Superior at the mouth of the Montreal River-our border with Wisconsin. Hard to imagine Vardaman and Benny swimming here in the hot summer some time back. I think we are on our fifty-something day at sub-zero temperatures here in the Western UP and now and approaching the record set back in the 70's. Not everyone's cup of tea, but if you love the challenges of a harsh climate and enjoy an empirical distinction between seasons, the Northwoods has much to offer. The new Central Wood Boiler is cranking out the BTU's and the 94 year old stone farmhouse is a cozy and mindful place. This shot was taken with the Canon 17-40L lens. Sold my 35L on Ebay to purchase this lens and so far am happy. I have traditionally only shot with prime/fixed focal length lenses, due to sharpness considerations, but with the Canon L series professional lenses, have discovered that there is little noticeable difference. Nice to have the ultra-wide 17mm option on the full frame 5D Mark II.
