Common Redpoll (Carduelis flammea)

The Snow Buntings
and Dark-Eyed Juncos
in darting shades
of gray, black, and white
scatter along the highways
like the mostly
unobserved detail
in a watercolor
having returned for the winter
from a coniferous
Arctic Summer.
When the Common Redpoll
finds her way
having
also left
the land of the Inuit peoples
and joins the
ground-feeding
gaggle of
intuitive searching
and pecking
I will
take my place
at the window
in bathrobe
sipping coffee
behind tired eyes.
